Psychological Services for Children and Young People

At the Northwest Psychology Practice we work with kids of all ages. We love helping kids build inner strength and resilience, helping them do things that they never thought they could.

We help kids with a range of issues including

  • anxiety and shyness

  • social skills problems and issues with friendships

  • adjustment to big changes (such as parental separation)

  • coping with pain and illness

  • trauma and grief

  • sleep, eating and toileting issues

  • behaviour problems

  • anger and tantrums

We use games, toys, art and rewards to make therapy effective and fun. And we work closely with parents – we rely on your expertise and knowledge as you are the one who knows your child best. It is our goal to work in partnership with you, and to upskill you so that you can use the strategies at home.

We also love working with teens and their families. High school is a time of challenge and change, and we are here to support young people as they navigate these challenges.

Here are some examples of the kinds of things we can help with:

  • Bullying and friendship problems

  • Study stress, coping with the HSC

  • Feeling down and sad all the time (depression)

  • Thoughts of suicide, or self-harming behaviour

  • Who am I, and what kind of person do I want to be?

  • Relationship breakups

  • Anxiety and panic attacks

  • Trauma, grief, loss and change

  • Conflict with parents or siblings
